A native of Amsterdam, Dennis Bergkamp played for only for three clubs in his magnificent career.

During his seven years with Ajax Amsterdam, Dennis Bergkamp won one Eredivisie (1989-90), one European Cup Winners’ Cup (1986-87) and the Europa League (1991-92).

Bergkamp then moved to Inter Milan, winning the Europa League (1993-94) before spending 11 seasons at Arsenal where he became an icon of the Gunners.

Bergkamp was distinguished by his amazing technique with both feet.

With Arsenal, “the Non-Flying Dutchman” (he had a phobia of taking planes) won three Premier Leagues (1997-98, 2001-02 and 2003-04), four FA Cups and three Community Shields.

With the Netherlands, Bergkamp broke the national team goalscoring record with 37 goals in 79 games. (A record later eclipsed by Kluivert and Van Persie).

For his 11 years with Arsenal, Bergkamp was inducted into the English Football Hall of Fame in 2007, the first Dutch player to receive this honour.

A statue of Dennis Bergkamp is prominent at the entrance to Arsenal’s Emirates Stadium.
